We're laughing our asses off at the Liberte house! It seems that ol' Tucks (Carlson, Not the Hemorrhoid pad) has heard A TERRIFYING RUMOR! If Obama becomes president, he would "strongly consider" appointing John Edwards Attorney General!

I'm sure that everyone has heard by now, Alberto Gonzales is resigning. He'll be headed off to "spend time with his family" sometime mid-September...'bout the same time that Gen. Patreus is doling out bits of information re: the long lauded Progress Report discussing how the Surge is going.
But as I sat and scanned the news errr...CNN last night at 9 ball, I'd noticed something interestingly ubiquitous...everything else was being covered but the AG's departure. Oh...and this thing about how bin Laden almost sorta got caught only Tommy Franks wouldn't give up the troops to do the job right.
Plainfield, NH not the new Waco? - Updated

Apparently this is happening right now in New Hampshire:
Authorities Converge On Ed and Elaine Brown's Home
Plainfield, New Hampshire - June 7, 2007
State and federal authorities have converged on the home of a New Hampshire couple involved in a tax standoff.
People are being kept several miles away from the Center of Town Road in Plainfield, where Ed and Elaine Brown live. Neighbors, including some who have been evacuated, reported police SWAT teams, a helicopter and at least one armored vehicle converged on a field near the home Thursday morning.
Death and Taxes

What is it about the month of April that attracts tragedies such as the one today in Virginia? Both the American Revolution and the American Civil War were started in the month of April. Abraham Lincoln was assasinated on April 14th, 1865. Martin Luther King Jr. was assasinated April 4, 1968. The seige at Waco was ended with horrendous results on April 19, 1993. Two years later, the Oklahoma City bombing on the same day, April 19, 1995. Then there was Colombine on April 20th, 1999.
And then there are the Taxes. The Curse of April is upon us.
GOP Mythology: The Waco Seige VS. the 1985 Philly Move Bombing

I received an irate private message from a right winger who read part of my newsblog and concluded that I am mentally ill for suggesting (in his words), "Our president was a termite gnawing away at the foundation of our constitution rights. I am obligated to compliment my right wing foe for providing me with the Bush/Termite Analogy for future use in polemics.
My right-wing nemesis who has adopted the sub-literate nickname of Rexx Havikk (get it?) has a bad case of bloghorrea, an obsessive compulsive disorder that results in an insatiable need to post inane comments on progressive political blogs incessantly.
[TX-Gov] Surprising(?) poll results from Waco paper
Fri Oct 20, 2006 at 05:19:18 PM PDT
A friend I know from Waco sent me this link, to an online poll set up by the Waco Tribune. I went ahead and put my vote in (for Chris Bell, of course), and expected to see a far different tally than what came up!
Here's the poll:
http://www.wacotrib.com/...
Go ahead and vote if you like, and check out the results. When I participated, here's a shot of the results at the time:

Not what I expected to see! Remember, Waco is about as close to "Bush country" as you can get.
I'm very pleased to see Bell up front, and can't believe Perry lags behind even Kinky and "none of the above".
While I am taking this with a grain of salt, (this poll can be voted on once/hr, respondants are probably not representative of the voting population, etc...) it did brighten my day just a bit. Just wanted to share with my fellow Texans on here. Maybe the tide is turning :)
They Won't Be Kiri Jewelled Again
Mon Oct 09, 2006 at 02:24:16 PM PDT
Well, the GOP talking heads are trying their hardest to breathe life into Matt Drudge's meme that Mark Foley's IM exchanges were the result of a cruel prank by teenaged "beasts." James Dobson was repeating this idiocy on Fox News over the weekend, which must represent some sort of twisted double effort on the part of the Republican Party. And I don't think the main reason is desperate spin on the part of conservative hacks and hitmen. That's certainly part of it, but I can't help but thinking that the Republican Party doesn't want to be Kiri Jewelled again.
David Koresh is back

I have a cousin. I call him my right wing cousin. He's been a "Conservative" since 1992 when hurricane Andrew knocked out power for months leaving him listening to talk radio and thinking about politics for the first time. We were always different growing up and turned out looking at the world in two very different ways. While there is some unease at holiday get-togethers, the family love remains.
Clinton Calls Impeachment Egregious Abuse
Fri Nov 11, 2005 at 05:17:50 PM PDT
Former president Bill Clinton called Congress' impeachment of him an "egregious" abuse of the Constitution and challenged those who say history will judge him poorly because of his White House tryst with Monica Lewinsky
Clinton Calls Impeachment Egregious Abuse
Speaking at an academic conference examining his presidency here Thursday, Clinton challenged historian Douglas Brinkley's comments in a newspaper interview that Clinton would be deemed a great president were it not for his impeachment.
"I completely disagree with that," Clinton said in his speech at Hofstra University. "You can agree with that statement, but only if you think impeachment was justified. Otherwise, it was an egregious abuse of the Constitution and law and history of our country."
Larry Northern Says "Don't do crime because you're going to do the time"
Tue Aug 16, 2005 at 06:52:15 PM PDT
You have all seen what Larry Northern did to the crosses and flags honoring the military set up at Camp Casey...
Crosses vandalized at antiwar mom's campsite - Politics - MSNBC.com: "CRAWFORD, Texas - A pickup truck ran over wooden crosses erected at antiwar protester Cindy Sheehan's campsite on Monday night in the latest sign of tension over the peace vigil outside vacationing President Bush's Texas ranch.
Larry Northern, 46, of nearby Waco, Texas, was arrested and charged with criminal mischief in connection with the incident, Crawford Police Chief Donnie Tidmore said."
Some people might have even thought he looks like an upstanding citizen at first glance...
