I just emailed the following to Menendez's campaign. I would encourage anyone else who feels strongly about this to do the same. You may also call them at 732-374-3577 which I strongly recommend if you are a New Jersey resident.
I worked on Bob Menendez's website many years ago at NGP VAN and am very proud of the logo I designed for him at the time (it remains one of my best, with the US flag hanging shaped by the wind into the shape of New Jersey).
I have also greatly appreciated the considerable good work he has done over the years. Given the proximity of NJ to NY, much of it has had an impact here as well.
That said, these allegations are the most serious I've seen against a Democratic official at the federal level basically since I was a kid. I simply do not see how he can effectively continue to serve. I join with the twelve Democratic Senators (and counting, presumably) in suggesting that both he and the republic would be better served by him stepping aside to focus on his legal defense.
The party would also be better served by the same as well, given the upcoming elections. I need not remind you of the perilous state of democracy in this country, and anyone dragging our party down right now would by definition be dragging down the country as well.
I beseech you to advise him to do the right thing for the country and step aside. Should he be eventually acquitted, I would have no problem considering supporting a future campaign to return to the Senate, but now is not the time for this incredible distraction from the important work we all must fully engage in.
